When the rain began Friday morning, after a winter of heavy snowstorms, we all said,
well, at least it's not snow. By Saturday evening, we had withstood the brunt of the nor'easter. Our back yard was a veritable swamp, but the water stayed in the yard and (mostly) out of the house. We only lost one tree, a crabapple, thirty foot tall, literally yanked out of the wet ground by heavy winds. But the row of pines withstood the storm. And
he who I do not blog about, coming home for spring break, got home late afternoon Saturday on one of the last trains before Amtrak suspended rail service.
Then, sometime late Saturday night, we lost power. (Estimates are that nearly a quarter million homes in NJ lost power in the storm). Initial reports suggested we'd have power back by 4:00 Sunday afternoon. When 4:00 came and went, and outages seemed, if anything, more extensive than they had Saturday night, trees taking power lines down all over the state, utility crews struggling to keep up with the outages, we checked into a hotel.
This morning, in our neighborhood, there are trees down, a few street lights down as well, some roads closed, debris everywhere, but the homes are fine and the power is back. I've got a little clean up ahead, but no real damage.
At least it's not snow.

we didn't lose power, though many did in other parts of Maryland, but we still had snow in some places. Combine the rain and melting snow...we're swamped. Literally. Streets were rivers and yards ponds. It has not been nice. I almost would have preferred snow.

Never mind. At least it isn't snow.
And, on the bright side, the crocuses are appearing!!
So sorry! Hope not having power didn' t ruin anything. I always fear the food in the freezer will thaw and go to waste.
@GoodGuyTheBoss - "Thawed" is not a problem this week. It's spring break. As long as it's not gone bad, there's no amount of food that can't be eaten this week.
What happens to all the "th" 's when people write Nor'easter ?
@beautifulwolf - I expect I'll find the th's when I finish cleaning up the debris.
Snow in N. TX caused similar damage early this year. Damage is damage -- whether by high wind, rain, or snow.
If Amtrak suspended service, must have been really bad.
Glad you got power back so you could blog about all this.
~~Cheers
"At least."
This post has just made me realise I really don't miss winter and spring at all. Winter is just plain awful and spring is more an ideal than a reality.
I was HOPING to lose a few trees, alas. At least our resident woodpecker shut up for a few days.
I'm glad to hear the damage wasn't too great!
