Monster Mash-up
We all know what follows success - sequels, variations, imitations and spin-offs - until we bleed the corpse dry. And so the hugely popular Pride and Prejudice and Zombies spawns new titles such as Jane Slayre and Android Karenina. In last Sunday's New York Times Book Review, Ward Sutton wonders what mash-ups will follow when "publishers run out of 19th-century classics to ransack."
Sutton suggests a few contemporary titles that cry out for the monster mash-up. In Green Blood. Eat, Prey, Ooze. Even Dr. Seuss gets the treatment in Horton Hears a Howl.
But why stop with books? Just think of the possibilities. Perhaps it's time for a Broadway mash-up? The Thing and I. Popular music? Parsley, Sage and Rosemary's Baby. Television? American Igor.
What contemporary books, music, tv shows or movies would you like to see receive a monster mash-up?Not to be confused with the monster mash.

Actually it is happening a LOT with music too... it has been for a while, starting with "sampling" now there are many totally complete "mashups" , several appear on my last.fm radiostation pognyc...
I haven't gotten into the mashup lit, yet,.... I am still working my way through the originals!
It was a graveyard smash...
Hmmm...I have to think on this now. Maybe Romeo and Juliet meet Dracula.
Jane Eyre was my favorite book growing up, so this Jane Slayre "mash-up" looks like a lot of fun! Thanks for the link!
@JVRCisMe - I pity the fool who misses Dr. Jekyll and Mr T
ROFLMAO! The Phantom of the Pet Semetary.
A tale of Two Cities and Godzilla!
MEGASHARK VS GEORGE WASHINGTON
THE DELAWARE MUST BE CROSSED!
@kirbym - It was the best of times, it was the worst of giant mutant dinosaurs.
I have a whole CD filled with mash up songs. It is insane. Club Mixes are in these days.
all my favorites are getting older
Introduce some quality for God's sake. The Catcher of Slayers in the Rye, Das Capital of the Undead, In Rememberance Of Times Past Before He Bit Me, and of course, Hamlet, Prince of Darkness.
While I am enjoying the wit in the post and the comments, I must be serious for a moment. I HATE the fact that classics are getting monsterized or mashed, or whatever the heck this is.
