I realize that most of the people who read my blog are not local (by which, of course, I mean not local to New Jersey. Everyone is local to somewhere). Anyway, I realize that most of you are not local, but for the few who are, here's your reminder that Wednesday at 7:00 pm, I'll be speaking at the
Somerville Public Library.
Developing Characters that Readers Care About (Writer's Workshop Series)Wednesday, October 19 at 7:00pm
Action scenes may hook readers, but it's the characters that keep them coming back for more. The ability to develop characters that readers care about is an essential element of the fiction writer's craft. Local mystery writer, Jeff Markowitz, author of the Cassie O'Malley Mysteries, an amateur sleuth series set in New Jersey, will discuss and offer tips for developing characters that readers care about.

Sounds like a can't-miss. Wish I was close enough to go.
@distractedbyzombies - It should be fun. Especially if I figure out how to fit 2 hours of material into 45 minutes.
hmmm, you could always add 'Intro to' to the title of the presentation. :D
I was in the Somerville area for two weeks, in July. Oh, well. Hope there's a good turnout.
@RighteousBruin - If your travels bring you back through Somerville in the future, let me know.
What about the villain or a character that people love to hate?
@doahsdeer - Will do, Jeff.
@RoaminCatholic@revelife - Exactly. You don't have to care for the villain, but you do have to care about the villain. Otherwise the book doesn't work.
Aaaaah, I wish I was close enough to stop in Jeff! I love listening to author's talk about their work and ideas. Hope you have a great turnout!
