Finding the plot that will get you to 50,000 words
Some of you are embarking on an epic novel writing journey starting in just a few days, and at least a few of you are still trying to come up with a plot. So here's the thing. I used to write a Nanowrimo tip of the day to help get folks through the month of November (if you're curious, scroll back in my archives to 2007, and you'll find a Nano tip every day from October 31 until November 30). Anyway, I don't plan on offering Nano tips this year, except perhaps today, to help you get off to a good start.
Plot is perhaps the most over-rated element of most novels. Still, it's hard to write a book without one. Even though your plot may not contribute much in the way of quality, it can do wonders for your word count. So it will be easier to write 50,000 words if your story has a plot. You're skeptical, I know. I can hear you asking, "But where do I find one of those... whatchamacallit... plot thingies?"
Do what the professional writer does. Steal one.

Wishing luck to all who are embarking on this writing adventure. I am more into speaking through my camera lens so I am looking forward to reading what the talented writers here on xanga have to say, and we have some very creative, talented writers on here.
Hm. Maybe I'll write about a department store Santa who finds dead wildlife with mysterious puncture wounds every morning on the grounds of a minor-league baseball stadium.
I have several plots in my head. Some day, I will hole up in a box for a decade or so, and maybe produce a novel, or two. Right now, it's time to have lunch, then get back outside and play.
Ha!
Ha! I just made myself snort-laugh!
Good luck to all the writers! May the plot thicken!
HUGS!
