The mission of the the
Tin Mountain Conservation Center is "to promote an appreciation of the environment among children, families and the community through hands-on programs in the schools, at camp and in the community." The Field Station in Jackson encompasses 228 acres, mostly pine forest.
Hiking trails crisscross the property and this time of year, covered in snow, the trails provide an outstanding destination for snowshoeing. After fueling up on a plate of vegetarian hash, we drove out to the field station, strapped on our snowshoes and disappeared for the afternoon, deep into the woods. We passed the old tin mine (this property was the site of the very first tin mines in North America) and made our way through the balsams and the spruce, through the northern hardwoods, out to the cellar hole pond.
After spending the afternoon in the woods, we drove back to Nordic Village, took a swim in the outdoor pool and then unkinked in the outdoor hot tub, surrounded by snow-covered mountains.
We finished our day at the Wildcat, for a mug or three of Tuckermans pale ale. There was some sort of athletic event on the TV in the bar. The Giants won.
All things considered, not a bad day.

That sounds like a great way to spend a Sunday. Snowshoeing is not for the typical armchair jockey, that's a workout! I envy your ambition, I spent my Sunday on the couch watching that sporting event
. I hope you follow up with pictures!
It does not get much better than a long hike ending in an outside hot tub enjoying the view of the mountains.
I was in that area once, with my wife and in-laws. It's definitely one of New Jersey's crown jewels. Poetic justice came to the House of Belichick last night. Cutting a guy the night before the Super Bowl was the depth of classlessness- end of rant.
sounds like a great day. i'm glad that sporting event wasn't the highlight.
Reports I am hearing right now say that your snowshoeing fun might not be over with anytime soon.
Damn, I'm super jealous.
