A Prayer for a Child, by Dr. Seuss
"From here on earth
From my small place
I ask of You
Way out in Space:
Please tell all men
In every land
What You and I
Both understand . . .
Please tell all men
That Peace is Good.
That's all
That need be understood
In every world
In Your great sky.
(We understand.
Both You and I.)"Happy birthday, Dr. Seuss.

thanks for posting this. i'd never seen it. LOVE.
Hadn't read A Prayer for a Child before. Thanks for posting. I always thought Horton Hears a Who was so profound.....
Dr. Seuss' the foot book was the first book I learned to read. He was quite the inspiration for me as well.
He will be among us in spirit, always.
Happy birthday, Mr. Geisel!
That's a lovely picture. I don't remember seeing anything by him before that wasn't weird.
I was fascinated to learn from my daughters that "Pale Green Pants With Nobody Inside Them" had terrified them as it did me in my childhood.
@Roadkill_Spatula - It was in his private collection.
Beautiful, as ever. Love that man.
The first book I ever read, all by myself, with no help, was The Cat In the Hat. It's still my favourite, although I have to say, MOST Dr. Seuss books score high with me
(Kinda named my cat after one of 'em!)
Such a simple message and so true
Absolutely adore this post! Kudos!
A new one to me. Thank you for sharing.
I had never read that one. Thank you so much for sharing it. I wish I had not found it so late tonight. My two youngest had a special 'Dr. Seuss Day' today at school, tall big red and white hats, the whole shebang. I'll read it to them in the morning. Again, thank you for sharing this wonderful and meaningful poem.
